Seeds of Hope

The Reality

The people of Mozambique are living between two realities.

In one reality, the people of Mozambique have found profound capacity and potential. They have ample farmland, access to water, and energy with remarkable mineral resources, as well as natural gas. There are large seaports, a robust labor force and four countries that rely on Mozambique as a gateway to global markets.

In the other reality, 700,000 people have been displaced as they flee the devastating effects of ISIS insurgency. As families leave their homes and seek refuge in other parts of the country, their search for food and safety is creating strain on local economies.

THE NEED

Poverty, hunger and malnutrition are a reality in Mozambique, especially with the presence of ISIS.

  • One out of every two children suffer from malnutrition

  • Children and families are robbed of their vitality and capacity to overcome poverty … sometimes even life itself

  • Young children struggle at school and often don’t reach their full potential as adults

There is a critical need for business creation that empowers families toward self-sufficiency, stabilizing local economy, and ensuring kids are well fed and able to thrive in school.

THE SOLUTION

With your help, the Seeds of Hope program will start family-owned poultry farms that increase local employment, help families become self-sufficient, and move kids toward a flourishing future.

Led by farmers John and Tarryn Kennedy, Seeds of Hope will be the first community-based chicken processing and marketing company in Mozambiques northern region. Partnering with Extreme Response, this project seeks to empower and invest in 150 contract farmers over the next five years, helping grow their business and gain access to local markets for their products.

Utilizing small business loans, training, and support, the one-year goals include:

  • Doubling egg distribution to preschool students

  • Helping 15 entrepreneurs start poultry businesses with access to local markets

  • Teaching families basics in nutrition through local schools and churches

  • Cultivating care and connection for vulnerable people
