Fighting poverty through opportunity.

One day, the cycle of poverty will end and children who once were homeless and living in poverty will be leaders of this world.
— Crete Academy, Vision Statement

If Los Angeles County were a nation, it could boast of having the 18th largest economy in the world. But as you travel the streets of Los Angeles, that fact stands in stark contrast to the many who are struggling in poverty. Every day, the dreams of children and their parents are cut short by lack of opportunity.

The story doesn’t have to end there. When parents start and grow local businesses, at-risk children have a chance to realize their dreams for success and flourish.

The Need

While Los Angeles County boasts the largest economy in the U.S., 30% of South LA residents live in poverty. High rates of unemployment and lack of investment keep families struggling generation after generation.

These families will continue to experience the devastating effects of poverty without new sustainable businesses, living-wage jobs, and empowerment of communities at a local level.

The Approach

Creating opportunities for children and their parents living in poverty.

In partnership with Crete Academy of South LA and Tapestry LA Church, a select group of aspiring entrepreneurs will go through a 6-month training program designed to help equip them to launch and grow sustainable businesses.

Paired with experienced business mentors, these entrepreneurs will take the first step toward transforming their community.

We are committed to the holistic empowerment of the people of South LA through economic, social, and environmental transformation.

The Impact

“Pre-Convergence I wasn’t making any money. After this experience, I’m actually making money. I’m sending out invoices, I’m making contracts. Before this I had a hobby… now I have a business.” -Andrea, Entrepreneur

“I so appreciate this program and everything it’s doing for me to grow my home repair business. I have an amazing mentor, Jake, who is helping me to better engage with my customer base and focus on what kinds of customers I can best serve.” -Deon, Entrepreneur

“What sets this program apart from others is, not only is it helping people, but it’s equipping people so that they can be prepared to continue to grow in their own journey. And I find that strategy so much more life giving and long term.” -Paul, Mentor
